The Benefits of Total Home Automation

632054314_903.jpg

When you hear the phrase “Total Home Automation”, what do you think about? Maybe it’s the convenience of knowing you can regulate your home’s systems remotely from your smartphone, ipad, or laptop? Maybe it’s the savings and efficiency of orchestrating your home’s climate and lighting controls to suit your lifestyle? Or maybe it’s knowing that when the kids or mom are home alone, the home is secured, and you can check in on them at any time -  for everyone’s peace of mind.

For just a minute, let your imagination roam. What would it be like to have automatic lighting control, video surveillance accessibility and thermostat control and be able to control everything from your cell phone? Consider for a moment having the ability and capability to properly manage energy to help lower your bill. More and more manufacturers are now selling “smart appliances” and specialized applications, that can even give you a heads up if Mom doesn’t seem to have made it to the kitchen for her routine 6am oatmeal, juice and coffee. Peace of mind. Convenience. Money-saving efficiency. That’s the power of Total Home Automation.
3 Benefits of Total Home Automation
Convenience:
  • Life, and sometimes traffic, can make it difficult to be home the moment the kids come in the door or when the repair person shows up. Since you can’t be in two places at the same time, having the convenience of accessing your home systems remotely can be a real time saver. Some examples:
    • Turn off all the lights in your home without having to get out of bed.
    • Use your cell phone or mobile device to turn your wireless home security alarm system on/off
    • Use voice recognition to control appliances around the house
    • Video visit with your children, the sitter, neighbors, mom, or repair professionals
Efficient Energy Management & Savings:
  • When used properly many home automation products, also known as "smart" products, help you manage your home’s energy consumption. For example, automate your thermostat to adjust settings throughout the day based around the times someone is home or the house is empty.
  • Some "smart" devices can be synced up to your appliances with real-time energy information. This helps your home appliances know the most cost-effective times to operate. For example, your dishwasher may run at 2am because this is the best time for the lowest price. Some smart appliances can also be programmed to provide activity reports - particularly useful if you wish to help monitor an ailing loved one.
Wireless Home Security:
  • Total home automation systems have many security benefits. As mentioned, they allow you to check in on your home from a remote location, giving you true peace of mind. Some systems will let you interact with your home alarm system, providing you with the ability to arm and disarm your home remotely. Some complete home automation systems will alert you by phone, text or email if there is any unusual movements within your home.
  • Home automation products provide convenience and save you time and effort performing household tasks. When you properly manage your energy, you can reduce your energy consumption, which may help you save money. Total Home Automation lets you customize your home to fit your family’s unique needs and lifestyle.

Once relegated to the realms of science fiction fantasy, Total Home Automation is now a reality. Wireless home security automation lets you do all this and more. In addition to the convenience, savings, and peace of mind a total home automation system brings you, it can also add to the resale value of your home. So, for more information about how Smart Home Protection Systems can help your family live better with a Total Home Automation system, call (615) 547-9222.

Top 5 Reasons to Invest in a Home Alarm Security System

Investing in a home alarm security system seems like an obvious choice for every family’s to-do list. Everyone knows the number one reason to invest in a home security system is to protect our families and assets. So why do so many put it off, or simply choose not to do it - especially as we see more and more areas where police departments are struggling to respond  to big budget cuts?

At Smart Home Protection Systems, we care about your family’s health and safety. Here we’ve compiled a list of the top 5 most compelling reasons to consider a home alarm security system to protect your loved ones.

Top 5 Reasons to Invest in a Home Alarm Security System

  1. To Detect Smoke and Fire
Did you know that many security systems are also built to protect your home from a fire? A home fire alarm system is usually part of a total security system providing burglary protection in addition to fire protection. Such a system supervises doors, windows, and spaces within the home for break-in and may provide monitoring services by dialing your telephone to report a fire or intrusion to a security office, where it will be reported to your local police or fire department. Having a home security system that doubles as a smoke detector is extremely important, especially when you consider the latest home fire statistics. The National Fire Prevention Association says that many fires are started by cooking mishaps or "heating fires," which are caused by central heating units, fireplaces, chimneys, water heaters, or heating stoves. The use of a home security alarm system can make all the difference between total loss of property - and life - and survival.

  1. To Deter Potential Crime
Although a large barking “Rover” is always a great way to keep burglars away, studies show that nothing beats investing in a home security system as an effective deterrent to anyone having less than honorable intentions as they approach your home - the place where your precious loved ones sleep at night. Burglars generally spend less than 60 seconds breaking into a home. So, anything that made a house harder to access, including home security systems, deadbolt locks, bars on windows, and pins in sash windows, acted as a deterrent. What's more, the Electronic Security Association notes that 9 out of 10 burglars avoid homes with alarm systems and said if they did encounter an alarm, they would not attack the home. The bottom line: Burglars are on the lookout for "soft targets," so making your home more difficult to access is likely to deter a break-in. And as for Rover? Well, after all, he’s a beloved family member too, and a home security alarm system will protect him from burglars who may consider doing him harm in order to silence him.

  1. To Help Law Enforcement Respond Faster to Emergencies
    A home security alarm system can actually help children, seniors, and disabled persons get medical attention in the event of an emergency. A person with limited mobility living alone may carry a wireless transmitter that triggers their home security system if they need assistance. As with a fire, once the home security system has been triggered, emergency responders are immediately notified. Many home security alarm systems include two-way intercoms so that when the system is triggered, you and your family members can communicate directly with the operators in case you can't get to a phone. While this little detail may not sound like much, to someone with limited mobility or simply a lower maturity level (children), it has proven life-saving in emergencies

  1. To Control Your Home Remotely
    Today most home security alarm systems have a “smart” capacity option available through which they can alert you - via text or e-mail - when there's activity in your home that you want to know about. For example, you can get alerts every time someone enters your home, the basement light goes on, or every time your liquor cabinet opens. You can also use it to give you peace of mind for a family member with health issues living solo. Many systems even allow you to view live video feeds from your home online or on your phone. And if you're a working parent who wants to keep tabs on when your kids come and leave the house, certain alarm systems will allow you to do just that. Case-in-point: some so-called "latch key" systems will send a picture of your child returning from school to your e-mail or phone. The alerts and notifications are completely customizable, so you can tone them down or turn them off completely should you choose.

  1. To get a Discount on your Home Insurance
    On top of being a burglar-deterrent, installing a home security system could also help lower the premium on your home insurance - and by a pretty penny at that! In fact, some companies may cut your premiums by as much as 15 or 20 percent if you install a sprinkler system and a fire and burglar alarm that rings at the police, fire or other monitoring stations, according to the Insurance Information Institute. Why are home insurance companies willing to offer these huge discounts? When you install a home security system, it makes it less likely that someone will be able to break into your home, and in effect, there's less of a chance that your insurer will have to cover your losses due to a home invasion. Basically, when you install a home security system, you are less of a risk for your insurer.

Of course, in addition to keeping your loved ones and your property safe, one of the greatest benefits of having a home security system is the peace-of-mind that comes with it. When something goes wrong, whether home or away, knowing that your home is safe is very reassuring. For more information about how Smart Home Protection Systems can help you find that peace of mind for your family, call (615) 547-9222.

Keeping Your Family Safe from Home Invasion

home-invasion-533x400.jpg
It doesn’t take too much imagination to picture this scenario: You and your family are tucked comfortably in your beds, sound asleep. Suddenly, the noise...is it possible that someone has invaded your home? The second noise leaves no room for doubt. You bolt out of bed as the adrenaline surges through your body. What next? What’s the next best step?

Home invasion happens more often than most of us would like to believe. Forethought and preparation are the key factors that determine how well we respond to such dangers. So what is the next best step to keep you and your family safe?

First, never attempt a confrontation, and if the burglar runs, don't pursue. Instead, hit the panic button on your home alarm system and notify the local authorities immediately. Even though some home protection systems will automatically notify the police department in the case of home invasion, it's also a good idea to keep your cell phone next to your bed so that you are able to call as you activate the alarm and provide real-time updates to 911 as police prepare to enter your home.

While you're on the phone, move yourself and your family to a previously discussed safe place in the home. Barricade it, and escape the house, taking refuge with a neighbor if possible. This is an activity that your family should practice regularly, as with fire drills. Once you have fled the house, inform 911  so they can notify the responding officers of your whereabouts.

If you are confronted by the burglar, it is always best to avoid "fighting it out." Always attempt diplomacy, remain calm, and be certain to make mental notes about age, appearance, etc., that you can provide to police. However, if it is clear that a violent confrontation is unavoidable and that it is impossible to remove yourself safely from the situation, defend yourself and your family until law enforcement officials arrive on the scene.

At Smart Home Protection Systems, we hope you’ll never have to face a scenario like the one described above. As an ADT authorized dealer, our mission is to put up a strong line of defense that prevents you and your family from ever having to. Let us help you protect your family from the dangers of home invasion, as well as other dangers, like fire, flooding, and carbon monoxide poisoning. Protect Your Family from House Fires

In just one example of the recent heart-breaking losses our region has suffered due to fire, an East Nashville man and his 4-year old daughter lost their lives tragically this month when a fire broke out in their home at 2 am. Nashville firefighters arrived on the scene to heavy smoke and flames. Fortunately, they were able to rescue 2 other children and managed to have the blaze under control in about 15-20 minutes. Unfortunately, investigators found no evidence of any type of alarm or detection system at the residence.

House fires happen unexpectedly, at any time of the day or night - often with no warning or even reason. As the rash of house fires by lightning strike in our most recent storms attest: it's absolutely imperative to have a plan to protect your family's safety, and survival, in case of such an emergency.

The American Red Cross tells us that we will likely have just two minutes to escape a fire started in  our home. Two minutes. Think about the amount of time you spend brushing your teeth before bed each night. Now think about the amount of time it will take you to arouse, alert, instruct, and assist each member of your family to safety when an emergency occurs.

Next, factor in the additional time it will take to find, possibly subdue, and rescue your beloved pets. After all, they're members of the family too. When animals are stressed, they hide. Because they are smaller, the smoke they inhale affects them faster and more severely than a human.

Fire victims rarely see the flames. Fire consumes the oxygen in the air and increases the amount of deadly carbon monoxide, causing a loss of consciousness or death within minutes. 60 percent of house fire deaths occur in homes with no working smoke alarms.

Our best chance of surviving a house fire is early detection and notification of our local area fire department. While we know our fire departments are staffed with trained, dedicated professionals, there are a wide number of factors that impact response times. One of the most important things you can do to protect your family's safety is to install a home protection system that gives you the ability to alert first responders immediately and with ease. Even better: utilize a monitored or smart home protection system that will make the call for you. During a home fire, working smoke alarms, home protection systems to alert first responders, and a regularly practiced fire escape plan will save lives.

We all agree: there's nothing more important than our family's safety. It's impossible to put a price on it. At Smart Home Protection Systems, we exist to help you protect your family's safety - and your peace of mind. We have a wide variety of equipment and packages available for your to choose from. Different Types of TN Locks

For all Lebanon residential and small commercial businesses in need of TN Security Services, contact Smart Home Protection Systems situated in Buck Run Court.

Different Types of TN Locks available are:
  • Key-retaining locks - Most padlocks are non-key retaining. With a key-retaining lock the key is not released until it is locked again. This lock is a good idea for areas where people might forget and leave the lock open;
  • Shrouded-Shackle Locks - Difficult to disable with bolt cutters as the shoulders rise up the sides of the shackle, leaving little space for the cutters. Most moon-shaped locks have shrouded shackles;
  • Rubber Cover or Plastic Casing - Protective covers to prevent locks from being dented or scratched, and provide added protection against the elements, thus prolonging its life;
  • Hardened-Steel Shackle - Minimises the chance of the lock being disabled with bolt cutters (unless they are using industrial-strength cutters);
  • Disc Locks - Exposes a limited amount of shackle which makes it extremely difficult to cut through the shackle with a normal pair of bolt cutters.
